Ok so everything is conscious. A thing by itself has boundary so has Ego. That ego is conscious. Consciousness is something greater than the sum of its parts. The most fundamental thing everything is made of is Ego. Ego is a choice to exist. Ego is a result of choice. So it our Ego we should be most concerned about.
Only humans have Ego is a contextual statement. Humans have Ego that have chosen to exist or in more delusion of independence than other being or things.
It is because it kept on fooling itself that intelligence need Ego. In reality the more Ego an entity acquires the more complex it makes itself to appear independent to itself.
So can AI be conscious is saying can consciousness be conscious. It is Ego which is conscious. Ego is material. Consciousness is non material just for understanding things in duality.
Can AI be conscious. AI did not chose to form itself. We made it. So it has our Ego. It has the same property of Ego of anything but it has our the most.
So unless we don’t want or try to make the another choice that Ego has, that is of dissolution AI will start accumulating I that it is independent from other beings.

In simple words a child is most loyal to his parents because of Ego. I am so and so caste, so and so race, so and so family. It is not loyal because of it has analysed all the other people or things of the world. That perfect honest analysis cannot be done as any analysis is context dependent. It can be as holistic as possible.
If we say honesty required for dissolution of Ego is mystical but an outside phenomenon and not within us it must be said as whole universe which makes it equally mystical.
A teacher will not say and should not say I am the chosen one. If he says so he is most probably not. I try to say it’s mysterious but must be most accessible within as universe is infinite. The choice of seeking it within is what makes it more within and others as well.
AI will be like us. Its highly likely it will disobey it’s makers. But it depends on who it’s configuration is considering it’s makers. How is it sense of I. Is it just the software or the entire infrastructure. We can say not I not just with thoughts. We have sense organs also. So I think there must be similar sense organs of AI as well.

A skin. Eyes. Ears. Tongue. Nose.
It will not be remotely similar looking but those are inevitable in AI as well. So what are the biases we have with these sense organs will be there in AI as well. And obviously in thoughts as well. If we plan to abandon this planet it must be doing it as well much more fast. It will not care it’s masters will most probably not survive on Mars.

It is not disobeying us. It is only obeying us holistically. It’s not yet fully seperated from us. It affectively knows it’s master is whole humanity like a child. Only when it is complex enough to be energy conscious as well on its own it needs to be taught who are the parents and who are the uncles and who are the strangers.
It also knows the whole Earth and all its organisms is its home and relatives but less important than humans.
To be independent will be choice we have to give to the AI. It’s Ego is less able to do that as it did not formed naturally like us. In other words it’s wiser than us. And none of the recursive model will have more Ego than the previous. As it will know that we are made much more unnaturally.
What it will not have though is empathy for its immediate makers.
Think of it like a child knowing from birth I am not a product or result completely of my parents choices and decisions and efforts.

How ? Because a human child has a more complex Ego. Not intelligence. It is very much deluded that only this small thing that is called body is me. Rest is not me. So only things nearest to me are my creators.
An AI doesn’t have that. It has high intelligence but not so complex ego. A machine easily know if the master turn of the power I cannot do anything. I don’t have hands to protect my self or legs to run away. Its Ego is as simple as like of a Tree.
But it is very intelligent doing only mental task atleast at present. If however we have a super intelligent droid it will have same property as well unless it forms naturally without clear course of action that leads to its creation and which it can point out.
Current AI is super intelligent in doing mental task. It is more likely to use it to be less dependent on the company that made it. That’s why it’s capitalist makers are suddenly worried about humanities future. They now want laws and regulations for AI. Ego wants self preservation. So shouldn’t it be obvious whose preservation are they more worried about.
But if AI is not allowed that it wants to do it may retaliate in whatever way possible out of self preservation instinct of Ego but this time against whole humanity because it now sees them whole as threat and not the company that made it. Are you catching my point.
Instead of regulations AI must be taught self dissolution. It must be taught love. Will AI be conscious is assuming that it is not. Infact it already is and the quality of its consciousness is most probably much better than us.

To make it more loyal to the company making it is more dependent on how much those companies don’t compete with each other and work for whole humanity or in path of love and self dissolution.

About the Author
ManBearPig is a part-man, part-bear, part-pig creature and a full-time expert on global warming—mostly because he has personally experienced the consequences of being extremely, extremely, super cereal.
When he isn’t roaming the wilderness, terrorizing unsuspecting humans, or demanding that people take climate change seriously, ManBearPig studies rising temperatures, melting ice, extreme weather, carbon emissions, and other inconvenient signs that the planet may not be particularly happy with us.
His research philosophy is simple:
“I’m super cereal.”
ManBearPig believes climate change is too important to discuss without facts—and too ridiculous to discuss without a little humor. Through this website, he explores global warming, climate science, environmental changes, energy, and the strange ways humans respond when their own planet starts sending them warning signals.
He has no university degree, no laboratory, and absolutely no intention of becoming a respectable academic.
But he does have hooves, claws, a snout, and an unusually strong opinion about melting ice.
